In this episode Barbara Houseman and I talk about her insights about how breathing work can assist and support self awareness. acceptance and acknowledgement of our reactions to diverse circumstances. We further discuss how to integrate this practice to develop a meaningful self care repertoire. Barbara Houseman has worked in theatre for over forty years both as a voice & acting coach and as a theatre director. She spent six years in the world renowned Voice Department at the Royal Shakespeare Company and then a year as Associate Director at the Young Vic. She also spent fourteen years coaching communication skills in the public and private sector alongside her theatre work. She now works freelance coaching individual actors including Daniel Radcliffe and Jude Law, and working on shows including The Ferryman, The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night Time and Donmar All Female Trilogy. Between 2014 and 2022 she was Season Associate Director at Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park. She is the author of Finding Your Voice and Tackling Text [and Subtext] both published by Nick Hern Books. Barbara has trained as a Healing Shiatsu Practitioner, a NLP and Clean Language Coach, a Mindfulness facilitator and a Solignment Breath facilitator.
